On Friday, July 8, 1932, just before 6:00 AM, a Southern Railway train wrecked at Daphna, Virginia.  The engine and coal car tipped while three trailing cars stayed on the tracks.   The engineer and fireman were injured but survived the accident.  According to an article in the News-Record, estimates are that around 2,500 people gathered to watch a large crane set the engine up on the tracks.  By mid-afternoon the train was towed away to Alexandria.  The two pictures below were taken by J. Ward Shank and are provided by Deb Nyce from Daphna.  Daphna Creek performs a song about the train wreck which is also recorded on their Gospel Tracks CD.
